It matters not how much we ask
When any prayer we speak
How many blessings for our friends
Or for ourselves we seek,
God does not mind how often or
How pleadingly we call,
Indeed He warmly welcomes our
Petitions, one and all.
But we must understand that by
His wisdom great forever,
Some prayers are answered very soon
Some later, and some never.
For He knows what is best for us
And all for whom we pray
And whether he should help us, more
Than we deserve today.
And so each time we beg of God
Some favor to fulfill,
Let us be patiently resigned
To His most holy will.
