What We Wait Around

“What we wait around a lifetime for with one person,
we can find in a moment with someone else.”

If You Spend Your Time

“If you spend your time hoping someone will suffer
the consequences for what they did to your heart,
then you're allowing them to hurt you a second time in your mind.”
~ Shannon L. Alder

We Die to Each Other

“We die to each other daily.
What we know of other people is
only our memory of the moments
during which we knew them.
And they have changed since then.
To pretend that they and we are the same is a
useful and convenient social convention
which must sometimes be broken.
We must also remember that at every
meeting we are meeting a stranger.”

~ T.S. Eliot, The Cocktail Party

I May Not Always Be

“I may not always be with you
But when we're far apart
Remember you will be with me
Right inside my heart”

I Know My Heart

But I'm telling myself I'll be okay”

Relationships Are Mysterious

“Relationships are mysterious.
We doubt the positive qualities in others, seldom the negative.
You will say to your partner: do you really love me?
Are you sure you love me?
You will ask this a dozen times and drive the person nuts.
But you never ask: are you really mad at me?
Are you sure you’re angry?
When someone is angry, you don’t doubt it for a moment.
Yet the reverse should be true.
We should doubt the negative in life, and have faith in the positive.”

~ Christopher Pike, Remember Me

If A Girl Starts Out

“If a girl starts out all casual with a guy and she doesn't
tell him that she wants a relationship,
it will never become a relationship.
If you give the guy the impression that casual
is okay with you, that's all he'll ever want.
Be straight with him from the start.
If he gets scared and runs away,
he wasn't right for you.”

~ Susane Colasanti, Waiting for You

Those Sweet Lips

“Those sweet lips.
My, oh my, I could kiss those lips all night long.
Good things come to those who wait.”

I Used to Advertise My Loyalty

“I used to advertise my loyalty
and I don't believe there is a single person
I loved that I didn't eventually betray.”

Lots of Things

“Lots of things can be fixed.
Things can be fixed.
But many times, relationships between people cannot be fixed,
because they should not be fixed.
You're aboard a ship setting sail,
and the other person has joined the inland circus,
or is boarding a different ship,
and you just can't be with each other anymore.
 Because you shouldn't be.”

~ C. JoyBell C.

Every Couple

“Every couple has ups and downs, every couple argues,
and that’s the thing -- you’re a couple,
and couples can’t function without trust.”

~ Nicholas Sparks, At First Sight

Part of the Problem

“Part of the problem with the word 'disabilities' is that
it immediately suggests an inability to see or hear
or walk or do other things that many of us take
for granted. But what of people who can't feel?
Or talk about their feelings?
Or manage their feelings in constructive ways?
What of people who aren't able to form close and strong
relationships? And people who cannot find
fulfillment in their lives, or those who have
lost hope, who live in disappointment and
bitterness and find in life no joy, no love?
These, it seems to me, are the real disabilities.”

~ Fred Rogers, The World According to Mister Rogers:
Important Things to Remember

To Say That One Waits a Lifetime

“To say that one waits a lifetime for his soulmate
to come around is a paradox.
People eventually get sick of waiting,
take a chance on someone,
and by the art of commitment become soulmates,
which takes a lifetime to perfect.”

~ Criss Jami, Venus in Arms

Cheating and Lying

Usually Adult Males

“Usually adult males who are unable to make
emotional connections with the women they
choose to be intimate with are frozen in time,
unable to allow themselves to love for fear that
the loved one will abandon them. If the first
woman they passionately loved, the mother,
was not true to her bond of love, then how can
they trust that their partner will be true to love.
Often in their adult relationships these men act out
again and again to test their partner's love.
While the rejected adolescent boy imagines that
he can no longer receive his mother's love because
he is not worthy, as a grown man he may act out
in ways that are unworthy and yet demand
of the woman in his life that she offer him unconditional love.
This testing does not heal the wound of the past,
it merely reenacts it, for ultimately the woman will
become weary of being tested and end the relationship
, thus reenacting the abandonment.
This drama confirms for many men that they
cannot put their trust in love.
They decide that it is better to put their
faith in being powerful, in being dominant.”

Even Though You May Want

“Even though you may want to move forward in your life,
you may have one foot on the brakes.
In order to be free, we must learn how to let go.
Release the hurt.
Release the fear.
Refuse to entertain your old pain.
The energy it takes to hang onto the past is
holding you back from a new life.
What is it you would let go of today?”

~ Mary Manin Morrissey
