In the darkened church on Christmas Eve,
A single candle burned,
Then flickered briefly in the night
Until the flame returned.
As the choir sang "O Holy Night"
Beside the manger scene,
The room aglow with love and light,
Seemed peacefully serene.
Then through the silent night there rang,
From all whose hearts believed,
A prayer that every day might hold
The peace of Christmas Eve.
